Want to stop overeating? This is the first step!
Are you regularly overeating and struggling to stop? Maybe you’ve noticed your portion sizes are bigger than they need to be, leaving you feeling bloated and overly full. You know you don’t need to eat more yet you’re still reaching for a dessert after dinner. This habit can be quick to fall into and the way to break it, begins with understanding the root cause.
If you want to stop overeating, ask yourself the following question: ‘how much am I actually enjoying my meals?’
Take a look at your typical breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do they leave you feeling satisfied? Do they incorporate the taste, textures and flavours that you enjoy?
If your meals don’t leave you satisfied (talking in terms of pleasure here, not just fullness), you’re way more likely to rummage through the cupboards after dinner to look for something else.
That regular need for dessert might actually be avoided by adding something else to your meal that gives it that satisfaction factor. Maybe it’s a few extra potatoes, a slice of bread or sprinkle of cheese that you won’t allow.
Explore if there is something you can add to your meals that will leave you satisfied instead of craving something else.
If you’ve explored the satisfaction factor and still feel the need to overeat, then we can begin to look at other influencing factors that need to be addressed.
